12 Pervasive Myths About Starting a Small Business

Few subjects are as plagued by myths and falsehoods as starting a small business. Everywhere you turn, someone is making sweeping proclamations about small businesses – the difficulty of starting one, the risks involved, the odds of failure or what you “have to do” in order to make it. And unlike in some fields, myths about small business are not simply harmless old wives tales. Rather than leaving you to fend for yourself against business dogma, Business Pundit assembled – and debunked – this list of 12 pervasive myths about running a small enterprise.

5 Ways to Enjoy Each Day

Well its Friday. As someone who works Monday to Friday, I can tell you there is something special about today. At work we dress casually, chat more to each other (usually about plans for the weekend) and are just generally happier. For many, Fridays are one last hurdle before the weekend. These people live for their weekends and, on the one hand, I can hardly blame them. Weekends are when they get to do what they want to do, whether it is partying, eating out, playing sport, etc. On the other hand, it seems such a waste to simply “wish away” 5 days of the week as I see many people do. The big idea for today is: enjoy each and every day.

What Are You Denying Yourself?

Most of us aren’t shameless hedonists. Our approach to life isn’t to grab as much fun and excitement as possible, seeking thrills and highs. Instead, we take a look at the big picture, and we think about financial security, the people we love, the career path we want to follow, our health, and our long term goals.

Life is the coffee

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

"The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything."

How to Do What You have Always Wanted

I’m willing to bet that there’s something you’ve always wanted to do.
It could be that you’ve always wanted to write a novel. Maybe you want to visit Africa or want to see the Northern Lights. Perhaps you’d love to open a little coffee shop or brasserie in your neighbourhood or maybe you’ve had brainwave for a neat little product that just might change the world.
You’re not alone. We all have things we dream about and things we’d love to do, and it’s rare that these things ever see the light of day.

Don’t Think About It. Do These 5 Things Instead

Most of us learned early in life that “thinking about it” is always a good idea. That is what reasonable, intelligent people do when they have a big decision in front of them, right? They think about it.

Building Positive Friendships: Modern Tools & Old-Fashioned Self-Understanding

“How can someone you’ve never met possibly be considered a friend?” This challenge was posed to an old friend of mine, one who has “been there” for me in person in years past and now stays in touch via the internet. But can it actually work the other way round? Can we make “real friends” through technology, meeting them in person only later, if at all? Are the friends we make through non-traditional means actually “real friends”?

3 Ways Your Breathing Can Improve Your Productivity

While we’re working, we often get so absorbed in our projects that we forget about our breathing. When this happens, particularly when we’re under stress, we can lapse into restricted breathing—inhaling in short gasps, or shallowly into the upper chest. What we don’t often realize is that how we breathe can deeply affect our efficiency and enjoyment in what we do. In this post, I’ll offer three breathing techniques to help you stay focused and peaceful as you work.

5 Reasons to Never Give Up on Your Dreams

You were born for a very specific reason! Everything that exists has a purpose. My laptop has a purpose, my car has a purpose, my socks have a purpose, my dog “Bananas” has a purpose, and more importantly you have a purpose.
You came to planet Earth to accomplish a specific mission. Maybe it’s to entertain, or to inspire, or to be an amazing parent, or to act, or to cook, or to paint, or to lead a country, or any other thing, but you came here for a specific reason. It would be an insult to your creator for you to leave this planet without fulfilling that mission.
Don’t settle for a life of quiet desperation, when you were born for greatness. Don’t live among the chickens, when your birthright is to soar like an eagle.
